The situation in Hong Kong continues to deteriorate with each passing weekend of peaceful marches interspersed with wanton destruction of public property with escalating violence on both sides with no apparent light at the end of the tunnel. Those who can have left the city, but for the vast majority we shake our heads and wonder how long we can endure.
Fortunately Red Doors offers a place of calm in the city where one can come to enjoy peace, quiet and the rejuvenating sounds of the gongs. We are expanding our presence in the community starting with identifying collaborations with schools to introduce our offerings to students and faculty, and programs for pregnant women too. Since time immemorial younger generations have expressed their dissent with the establishment. The most successful campaigns of the last century were led by men believing that peace was the way, starting by living their truths, Ghandhi said “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” and I'f you want to change the world, start with yourself'. They did not condone violence as a means to an end. Martin Luther King Jr believed 'Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.' But this takes patience, persistence and endless will power. I invite the protestors to look in the mirror and acknowledge 'It is in your hands to create a better world for all who live in it.' - Nelson Mandela and invite them to consider the possibility of making peace not war.
