Back to Basics

Every day begins with an act of courage and hope beginning with getting out of bed. Mason Cooley

One takes for granted the simple act of rolling over and getting out of bed in the morning. On Sunday I was completely paralyzed with pain and that very act became an heroic exercise resulting in a call to 999. Forty eight hours later, x-rays in hand, MRI completed, pain killers administered,  I was discharged with a diagnosis of herniated disc and told to continue doing what I normally do but be more careful.

The pain of today is the reason for gratitude of tomorrow. Adebaya Olalekon

I have a renewed appreciation for the simple things. Waking up, my breath, a warm bed, my cats by my side, a roof over my head, my health.

I have learned over a period of time to be almost unconsciously grateful--as a child is--for a sunny day, blue water, flowers in a vase, a tree turning red. Only a few evolved people are born to feel gratitude as naturally as they breathe, without even thinking. Most of us come to it step by painful step, to discover that gratitude is a form of acceptance.  Faith Baldwin

Let your faith be bigger than your fear. Anon

I was shown a fledgling learning to fly. Its first efforts were very feeble. But as it used its wings more and more, they became stronger until it found the freedom of flight and was able to soar to great heights and fly great distances without any effort. I heard the words: Faith comes with practice.  Live by faith until it become rocklike and unshakable, and find the true freedom of the spirit. (Eileen Caddy)

Faith is to believe in what you cannot see; the reward is to see what you believe. Saint Augustine.

For this eaglet, the urge to spread its wings and leave the nest becomes overwhelming and he takes a leap of faith.  The wings connect, the muscles contract and he tastes the exhilaration of first flight.

For those who ask 'why?'

To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible. Thomas Aquinas

Faith is like the little bird that can feel the light and sing when the dawn is still dark

The sheer joy and awe of a wild animal trusting you enough to feed from your hand  requires patience, stillness of mind and body and an open heart.

Learning to trust is one of life's most difficult tasks. -Isaac Watts  If you do not trust life to unfold, the mind takes over and it becomes a game of strategy, motivated by anxiety. - Mooji

Our bodies convey 65% of our message, thus actions speak louder than words.  We trust movement. Life happens through events not words. Anon  Begin with an open heart  and you can learn to trust life, it will trust you back. - Dharma

Then have faith and trust yourself. You must also trust and believe in people or life becomes unbearable. Anton Chekhov  Finally, Be willing to take the next step not knowing where it will lead you. If you do, it means you are ready for any new possibility. - Sadhguru.

This week I invite you to open our hands, our hearts, our minds to trust ourselves, each other and the universe.
