Plato described astronomy and music as "twinned" studies of sensual recognition: astronomy for the eyes, music for the ears, and both requiring knowledge of numerical proportions.  Pythagoras identified the proportions of Celestial bodies to define the music of the spheres which Kepler later believed to be inaudible except by the soul. Boethius described it as musica mundana or musica universalis reflecting the beauty of God.

Due to the marvels of science we can now listen to the sounds of the universe.

Recently I had the opportunity to meditate within Matramandir. This 24k golden orb is the spiritual centre of Auroville in India.  Ascending the walkway towards the upper chamber we transcended from  the hot dusty gardens into a white domed chamber of palpable silence. A single beam of light from the centre of the ceiling cut through the darkness to a large crystal orb surrounded by 12 white marble columns.  In minutes I felt at One, as One.

Oftentimes clients relate a similar feeling after a gong bath.  If We are all of us just stardust shaped into conscious being. S.J. Kincaid then wouldn’t we expect the  universe to affect us profoundly in all possible ways? Steve Madison

History Repeats

As fashion ebbs and flows, so too the  cycles of nature and of life.  In the past twelve months the challenges we faced and the solutions we found were unique for our lifetimes.  However they are not unique.  Here is a poem written in 1869, reprinted during the 1919 Spanish flu and as relevant today as it was then. 

And people stayed at home
and read books
and listened
and they rested
and did exercises
and made art and played
and learned new ways
and stopped and listened
more deeply
someone meditated, someone prayed
someone met their shadow
and people began to think differently
and people healed
and in the absence of people who
lived in ignorant ways
Dangerous, meaningless and heartless,
the earth also began to heal
and when the danger ended and
People found themselves
they grieved for the dead
and made new choices
and dreamed of new visions
and created new ways of living
and completely healed the earth 
just as they were healed.

This weekend we are truly blessed with Martin Bläse's visit.   Martin is a third generation silversmith and Gong Master (one who makes gongs).  His unique creations are built from inspiration and tuned to perfection.  To take a circular disk of metal and hammer it 80,000 times is a meditation inspired from the soul and driven by a deep spiritual connection.  He not only visualises but hears the final product with each tap of his hammer to shape  gongs, bowls, tingshas and other sacred sound instruments from a variety of metals including bronze, titanium, nickel silver, etc.

Most gong makers are craftsmen. Those highly skilled with their hands to reproduce quality instruments consistently.  Artists are skilled, spirit -guided creators constantly evolving and pushing new boundaries in his case through sound.  The gongs above were made especially for his trip to Hong Kong and will be on display for the next few weeks. They are all for sale. The Gong Beyond Gongs is the first of its kind and at 55" is a whopper.  As Yogi Bhajan says, 

“The gong is the sound of Creativity itself.  One who plays the gong plays the Universe.”

It's sonorous, resonant bass transports you to the source of creation.  The others, you need to experience them for yourself.

The Friday concert is fully booked however there are a few places left in the weekend workshop to learn about the metals, their characteristics and how and why they heal.  Participants will also play with Martin on Sunday for a special 2 hr sound circle open to friends and family from 1500-1700.   I invite you to learn from a true Gong Master, an inspired artist of metal whose craft is sound.

If we believe “Everything in life is vibration.” Albert Einstein .  Then every cell, every molecule in our bodies vibrates. So too everything comprising our known reality. Occasionally we become out of synch and require a tune up.  Some visit doctors for prescriptions or chiropractors for adjustments, increasingly others turn to energetic practices ranging from Reiki and Quantum Touch to essential oils, singing bowls, toning and gongs.  However nearly all of the musical instruments are tuned to the harmonic scale which is man made.

Surely it makes sense to tune into the sounds of nature.  I am the cosmic ocean of sound and the little wave of the body vibration in it. - Paramahasana Yogananda . Introducing the  frequencies of the cosmos will result in true balance, equilibrium and harmony.  

For the next two months we proudly host and collaborate with Jens Zygar, a German master of the Cosmic Octave, performer, recording artist, edutainer and Integral Sound specialist to share with us his knowledge for becoming one. He will perform with me in Wonderfruit, as well as at the studio, offer privates as well as two workshops.  We are truly blessed to have him here, an opportunity not to be missed.  Refer to the info below.
