Nature Sounds

October 7, 2022 Martha Collard

Playing at sunset I glanced over my shoulder and noticed movement. Squinting I spied a doe as she picked her way noiselessly through the undergrowth. Outdoors, I move, breathe and play in concert with the rustling of the leaves. I harmonise with the birds and in this case a vey loud cricket. Am I playing to, for, or with nature? My energy field expands sending waves of peaceful healing in all directions. I Am One.

Say "Yes" to Quiet

April 30, 2022 Martha Collard

International Noise Awareness Day was founded in 1996 by the Center for Hearing and Communication to raise awareness and educate the public about the harmful effects of noise on hearing, health and quality of life.

Noise is unwanted sound.  Since the 1930's attention has been drawn to the effect of ambient sound.on our wellbeing. In the workplace unwanted noise reduces productivity, damages hearing, stresses the nervous system and impairs sleep. While children exposed to loud noises will suffer developmentally.

Quiet refers to calm and tranquility.  Often in our busy lives we yearn for peace and quiet, linking one to the other.  This week I invite you to 'say no to noise and yes to quiet'.  Sit comfortably, close your eyes and breathe long and deep for one minute allowing your mind to become still and simply be.

Sounds and Silence

November 4, 2021 Martha Collard

Silence is essential. We all need silence, just as much as we need air, just as much as plants need light. If our minds are crowded with words and thoughts, there is no space for us. Thich Nhat Hanh

The dictionary definition of silence is the complete absence of sound or to prevent one from speaking. In music silence is the opposite of striking a note and is called a rest. Something we could all use more of.

Silence is a metaphor for inner stillness bringing one to connect with one's divine nature, or yoga. Anechoic chambers are rooms designed to completely absorb reflections of sound or electromagnetic waves. Steve Orfield, founder of the quietest place on earth (according to Guinness) explains that within thirty seconds to a minute, you start to hear the sounds that your ears make … within twenty minutes, the sounds of joints….. thirty minutes –your heartbeat and maybe the sound of your lungs. And eventually as John Beaulieu discovered, the sound of his own nervous system. Ironically we enter a noiseless space only to discover we are the noise.

Eckhart Tolle says silence can be seen either as the absence of noise, or as the space in which sound exists, just as inner stillness can be seen as the absence of thought, or the space in which thoughts are perceived. To make the right choices in life you have to get in touch with your soul. To do this you need to experience solitude, which most people are afraid of because in the silence you hear the truth and know the solutions. Deepak Chopra

This week park your monkey mind, ignore the FOMO (fear of missing out) and make space to simply be. Be still. Be quiet. Be connected.

Ebony and Ivory

If only the whole world could feel the power of harmony.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Today is World Mathematics Day, a day to celebrate. The ancients understood the interrelationships between sound and space, between music, mathematics and the physical universe. Pythagoras identified '.. geometry in the humming of the strings, there is music in the spacing of the spheres' and created our first musical scale based on ratios.

Harmony exists when you play more than one note together.  When I play my gongs I create a sound envelope overflowing with the harmonies of the universe for you to connect, align and become one.
This week I invite you to reflect on how, like Ebony and Ivory keys on a piano we can live together in perfect harmony, harmony with its roots in mathematics!

"I think music in itself is healing.
It's an explosive expression of humanity.
It's something we are all touched by.
No matter what culture we're from,
everyone loves music."
~ Billy Joel ~

Further evidence that sound has the potential to cure.

January 3, 2018 Martha Collard

Recent research in a lab confirming that vibrations at the right frequency can target specific cells. In this case cancer. The challenge is to do so in living tissue and not a petri dish.
