You are more than what you do.Your title should not confine you and your job does not define you. anon
This week I am attending an entrepreneur workshop and naturally am asked, 'what do you do?' 'Gong player' and 'Catalyst for Emotional Wellbeing' result in polite smiles so a photo can answer many questions. My 30 second elevator speech is still a work in progress as I believe what I do transcends title. Eckhart Tolle in his book A New Earth outlines the three modalities of Awakened Doing. They are acceptance, enjoyment and enthusiasm. Each represents a certain vibrational frequency of consciousness. The later embraces deep enjoyment in what you do plus the added element of a vision to work toward. This provides the energy. Enthusiasm resonates with the creative power of the universe and all you need do is 'ride the wave'. As he says, 'enthusiasm is based on inclusion. It knows where it is going but at the same time is at one with the present moment.'
After four years my vision is narrowing into one woman with two hands turning the table on global mental health by offering an opportunity to connect with oneself, with God and with each other using simple, elegant and ancient tools that offer a still point in our lives. Derek Sivers gives a TED talk on starting a movement. He says:
the leader needs guts to stand out and be ridiculed
the first follower transforms the lone nut into a leader
the third person makes it a crowd
when you find a lone nut doing something great, have the courage to stand up and join in.
This week I invite you to take that step and join me dancing on the hill.
What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you wish to make. Jane Goddall
