Celebrations
Celebration - To observe an occasion with appropriate ceremony or festivity.
There could not have been more of a contrast between my daughter's graduation from the University of Edinburgh last summer and my son's this year. University of Edinburgh was founded in 1582 and tradition reigns. The formality of the bag pipers and gowned ushers at the doors of the ornate historic McKewan Hall, the speeches by faculty and an eminent scientist and music by a string quartet gave the celebration a gravitas worthy of tradition. Compare this with SCAD in Atlanta. Students in t-shirts greet us at the doors of a modern convention centre, the school song featured a high energy chorus dancing through the audience, a speech by Carson Kreesley of Queer Eye for a Straight Guy and a grand finale of confetti and pyrotechnics concluded the event with an over riding theme of possibilities, family and love.

Behind you, all your memories
Before you, all your dreams
Around you, all who love you
Within you, all you need. anon
You have brains in your head
You have feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.
You're on your own
and you know what you know
You are the guy who'll decide where to go.
