Perfection is in the eye and hands of the beholder.
A few weeks ago my daughter and I rose early and made our way to the pond in front of the infamous Angkor Wat temple to wait for sunrise. The clouds nearly covered the entire sky and the crowd waited expectantly, forever optimistic for a stunning photo. A tourist in front of me took a photo at the same time as me, however after a few minutes of fiddling he produced an image totally unrecognisable to reality. It was postcard perfect.
The lines that delineate reality are now blurred, photoshopped and enhanced. What drives our obsession with perfection? What is wrong with remembering it as it was?
How often do we see parents editing a child's drawing? Adding legs or features to make it realistic when the child is perfectly happy with their effort. Can you imagine telling an artist that his work needs to be changed? Who are we to pass judgment? Perfect according to whom?
This week I invite you to embrace letting go of perfection and see what happens to your relationships and levels of stress.
Go well.
